Get around the app

The sidebar, the ⌘K command menu, patient search, and keyboard shortcuts.

Two things get you anywhere in the web app: the left sidebar and the ⌘K command menu.

The sidebar

The web app's left sidebar is organized in three bands:

Band

Items

Top

Home, Notifications, Tasks, Communication, Assistant

Clinical

Patients, Intake, Fax Inbox, Scheduling, Orders, Supplies, OASIS, Billing

Admin

Reports, Quality Management, Help, Documents

Settings sits at the bottom above the user menu. Inside Settings, the left rail groups pages under Account, Agency Management, Products, and Developers — Back to app returns you to the main sidebar.

What you see depends on your role — items your role does not use are hidden, which is why two people's sidebars can differ. See Set roles and permissions.

Search everything with the command menu

The Search... box in the header is a command menu — press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows) from anywhere to open it:

  1. Type a few letters. Results group into Patients, Orders, Tasks, Staff, and Navigation.

  2. Arrow to the result and press Enter to jump straight there.

  3. The Navigation group means you can reach any page by typing its name instead of hunting the sidebar.

Find a patient

  • Command menu — ⌘K and type the name, from any page.

  • Patients page — open Patients in the sidebar and search by name, MRN, or DOB. Use this when you need the filterable list rather than one chart.

  • Pickers throughout the app — linking a document, starting a message — carry their own patient search inline.

Keyboard shortcuts

The app is light on shortcuts by design. ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows) opens the command menu and is the one shortcut bound app-wide. The user menu at the bottom of the sidebar also displays ⇧⌘P beside Profile and ⇧⌘S beside Sign out, but those are labels — click the menu item to use it.

Data-heavy tables can carry their own — look for a keyboard icon on the page (the financial codes table, for example, documents its row-navigation keys in a Keyboard shortcuts dialog).

On the phone

The mobile app navigates with the bottom tab bar: Schedule and Patients always, plus Inbox, Uploads, and Notifications or Settings depending on your setup. The phone app is visit-first — for its full tour, see Your first week.

If something goes wrong

  • A page someone mentioned is not in your sidebar. Your role does not include it. Ask an administrator whether your role should — see Set roles and permissions.

  • A patient does not show up in ⌘K. Open Patients in the sidebar and search there by name, MRN, or DOB — it searches the full list.

  • ⌘K opens two search boxes at once. On Help Center pages, ⌘K opens both the help-article search and the app command menu. Press Esc to dismiss the one you do not need, or click the Search help box to search articles directly.
